An Iowa hospital and doctor are facing a medical malpractice lawsuit after a mother and her newborn son were injured during delivery. The mother is claiming medical negligence by the hospital and staff resulted in their injuries.
In February 2008, the woman came into the hospital in active labor but was not taken into surgery for a Caesarean section until more than eight hours later. She says a botched and delayed delivery resulted in her son’s skull deformity, skull fracture, and subdural hemorrhages.
During the Caesarean section, the mother suffered a laceration on her bladder. The laceration then became infected and led to a pelvic abscess, a wound separation, and bowel obstruction.
