On Tuesday, April 8 legislators suggested that the Social Security Administration (SSA) check social media profiles of social security disability applicants.
According to Representative, James Lankford and Representative, Jackie Speier, SSA personnel should cross-check the information made available on social media sites with information provided in disability applications. Legislators hope that this method will help to prevent disability fraud.
The Social Security Administration is hesitant to screen social media platforms until more training is made available in order to fairly evaluate the information presented on social media platforms.
